But David Vitter can hang on to his job. Got it. Via The Hill:
“Congressman Weiner has the love of his family, the confidence of his constituents, and the recognition that he needs help. I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress,” Pelosi said in a statement Saturday.
Her call was issued nearly simultaneously with pleas for Weiner to quit from Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Shultz (D-Fla.), the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the Democratic Conngressional Campaign Committee.
Wasserman-Schultz added:
[H]is sordid affair has become an unacceptable distraction for Representative Weiner, his family, his constituents and the House - and for the good of all, he should step aside and address those things that should be most important - his and his family's well-being."
As I posted here, the latest revelation were about not-inappropriate messages between Weiner and a seventeen-year-old girl.
Congress gets distracted by their own incessant recesses and obsession with banning legal abortions, but hey, time to boot Weiner because he's distracting from all those not-jobs bills that the GOP have introduced.
To quote our friend Emptywheel (Marcy Wheeler):
I mean, have DCCC Chair, DNC Chair, and Pelosi EVER had messaging coordinated this well on actual policy issues?
Go Dems!
UPDATE: He's taking a leave of absence.
